OUR BRIGHTEST NEW STAR
THE HOLIDAY EDIT
NEWS, UPDATES AND SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
We have to admit, the sight of our new ship Iona setting off on her maiden cruise on Saturday 7 August brought a tear of joy to the eye. She’s been on an emotional journey, as have we all.
Her much-anticipated return to the UK was celebrated with a unique virtual naming ceremony on 16 May 2021. The live event was hosted by broadcaster Jo Whiley, while Iona's godmother Dame Irene Hayes named her officially with a Britpop Cider bottle smash. The whole event, which included special performances by Gary Barlow, Music Director of The 710 Club on Iona, and the Commonwealth Youth Orchestra and Choir, was streamed live to thousands of guests, crew and employees of Carnival UK.
During her maiden cruise, Iona made a pilgrimage to her Scottish island namesake, where a celebration was held on board, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the Hebridean skies. Find out what guests Christine and Brian Dry enjoyed on Iona.
