Travellers are longing to reconnect with holiday experiences that they know and love. Research by ABTA – The Travel Association indicates that only 32% of those questioned would visit a country they'd never been to before. The appeal of rediscovering a tried-and-trusted destination closer to home is trumping the call of trying out somewhere far-flung and new. Short-haul European destinations such as Spain, Italy, France and Greece are cited as the most popular choices for a sure-fire, stress-free holiday. Booking.com reports that 95% of us have been looking for travel inspiration, with 42% wanting to travel more in the future to make up for lost time. Hiking (94%), clean air (50%), nature (44%) and relaxation (33%) are cited as much-desired experiences. Over two-thirds simply want to spend time outdoors with family when on holiday, while more than half (56%) want off-the-beaten-track experiences in the great outdoors. The Mintel Global Food and Drink Trends 2021 report reveals that we’ve become more connected to each other over the past 18 months through the power of food. The YouGov International Travel & Tourism Report 2021 reveals the sharp rise in responsible travel and the desire to ‘give back’ to local communities.
